Sports Injuries
Definition:
A variety of injuries can occur as a result of participating in activites such as running, martial arts, aerobics, kick boxing and other team sports.
These include, but are not limited to, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, sesamoiditis, ruptured tendons, arthritis, dislocated joints, additional fractures and stress fractures, other soft tissue injuries and sprains.
Stretching is recommended before and after performing any exercise.
Properly fitting shoes are important for injury-free exercise. Shoes should provide sufficient cushioning and shock absorption to compensate for pressure on the foot many times greater than found in walking. They must also have good medial-lateral stability.
Impact forces from aerobics can reach up to six times the force of gravity, which is transmitted to each of the 26 bones in the foot.
